Vanessa Schindler: Urethane, the new sewing

Born in Bulle (Fribourg), Vanessa Schindler is a graduate from HEAD-Geneva.
During her studies, she conducted research on how to free her practice from sewing by starting to use urethane, a material which looks like silicone and allows the elements to be poured onto her creations.
Her first collection using this procedure was presented as part of her master’s degree and was entitled «Urethane Pool, chapter 2» for which she won the 2016 HEAD Master Mercedes Benz prize. In 2017, she was awarded at the Hyères International Fashion Festival for this same collection.
Since then, she keeps exploring urethane for her new collections, allowing her to create a strong visual identity, but keeping her practice at a small scale, with limited editions and a craftmanship’s approach.
She had recently the opportunity to join a one-year residency programme at the Cité des Arts in Paris, thanks to the canton of Fribourg.
Vanessa Schindler was supported for PR and marketing of her project as part of the Design Call 2019.
